8/1, 8/8, 8/15 (Saturdays) – Summer Streets 2015


Summer Streets is an annual celebration of New York City’s most valuable public space—our streets. On three consecutive Saturdays in August, nearly seven miles of NYC's streets are opened for people to play, run, walk and bike. Summer Streets provides space for healthy recreation and encourages New Yorkers to use more sustainable forms of transportation. In 2014, more than 300,000 people took advantage of the open streets.

Summer Streets extends from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park, along Park Avenue and connecting streets, with easy access from all points in New York City, allowing participants to plan a trip as long or short as they wish.  You can water slide, soar through the air on a zip line, dance, get fit, immerse yourself in a public art and architecture tours or just stroll along and experience the city's streets in a new way.  All activities are FREE, and designed for people of all ages and ability levels to share the streets respectfully.

Vita Coco Beach featuring Slide the City at the Foley Square Rest Stop:
Visit Vita Coco Beach at Foley Square to slide down a 270-foot water slide, relax in a lounge chair underneath palm trees, quench your thirst with a refreshing Vita Coco Coconut Water beverage, transport yourself to a beach using virtual technology or cool off at a misting station. Don’t forget to share your free photo to document your Slide the City presented by Vita Coco experience.

Online pre-registration is required to ride the slide. There is no registration onsite.  To register and for further information, please visit the Slide the City website.

Fitness Classes at the SoHo Rest Stop:
Come stretch, jump, kick and get your heart rate up at free fitness classes with Crunch gym. *Crunch will provide 20 yoga mats for all yoga classes but we encourage you to bring one from home.

Drawing its inspiration from ballet, this class will shape and elongate all of your major muscle groups and have you tutu ready in no time.

Balanced Body Yoga
Bring yourself back to center in this yoga class designed to improve your posture, increase strength and tone your core. Regain focus as you build strength through yoga balance poses and deep breathing techniques.
9–9:30am
Brazilian Burn n’Firm Pilates
This unique Pilates inspired workout will shimmy your waistline and tighten your boom boom by combining Pilates-inspired standing moves and traditional Pilates mat exercises on the floor.
9:30-10am
Yoga Unplugged
In this class, the element of live acoustic music sets the stage as you move and flow through your yoga practice. Let the sound of soft acoustics soothe, relax, and inspire the heart, mind, and body.
10–10:30am
Street Jazz
The stage meets the street in this unique dance fusion class. Traditional jazz technique is combined with urban, rock, pop, and hip hop flavors for a non-stop workout that’s not just all that jazz.
10:30–11am
Belly, But and Thighs Bootcamp
Focus on your lower half in this belly-busting, booty shaping, two-part intensive class that features a series of exercise combinations that target, you guessed it - your belly, butt, and thighs.

Hard Knocks
This ultimate "in your face" cardio workout fuses the hard hitting power of boxing with the booty dropping swagger of hip hop for one knockout dance party!
11:30 am – 12:00 pm
Retro-Robics
It's a blast from the past! Work up a sweat with a touch of nostalgia in this heart-pumping, traditional aerobics class. This time around, legwarmers are optional!
12:00 pm – 12:30 pm
Tabura
Get ready to burn massive calories and become a true powerhouse warrior in this intensely fun class that uses kickboxing combinations and basic West African dance moves set to hot Tribal House music and a live drummer.
